You have two parts of the Mountains to Sea ride on your doorstep.  Hire a bike at one of the local bike shops. 

Ride one - Book a shuttle to take you up to Turoa at 1,700 meters.  From here it's 17kms downhill on the Ohakune Mountain Road, all the way through the Tongariro National park.  Check out some amazing views on the way.

Ride two - The Old Coach Road.  A stunning climb through farmland and then forest as you take a tour through history and get a sense of how this vital trail and railway was built.  You'll get to see the Hapuawhenua viaduct, the oldest and tallest curved viaducts at 245m long and 45m high.
